Mai Chau casual dual sport 3 day loop
Summary
The Mai Chau casual dual sport three day loop takes you to areas where the locals will be waving and clapping as you drive by. It is a testament to how few foreigners or tour companies have figured out routes like ours.
In fact, we would argue that the research project that made this tour happen has had some of the biggest impacts in terms of local enthusiasm for our presence. It was partly created because the research party was Jon and Ben, meaning wheelies and show-off antics were part of the project, particularly for local schools. But nonetheless, you will be met by some very enthusiastic locals on this tour!
All the offroad on this tour has been designed to be “easy,” at least in relation to our other offroad tours. This doesn’t mean that it is “easy,” though; it just means that it is “easier,” but rest assured, the terrain we are going on is super remote, and muddy trails come with remote locations and villages!
We have called this casual dual sport, though, and really, we expect to be able to take drivers of all levels on this route.
Tour Highlights
- Easy offroad
- Remote villages that rarely/never see foreigners
- Stunning Landscapes
- Very comfortable hotels and food
- Quick into the action in terms of offroad
Who this tour is for
This route has been designed for beginner to intermediate riders. Whilst advanced riders can certainly enjoy themselves on this route, the focus here has been to make something easier for Tigit clients.
The route contains a happy mix of road and offroad and the days have been attempted to be made shorter compared to our other options.
Tour Itinerary
Hanoi to Mai Chau
Day one contains around 50 percent road and 50 percent offroad. Fairly quickly after leaving Hanoi city we find ourselves on remote passes. While the research project was in shocking conditions at the time of writing, we have no doubts that the landscapes are stunning. We found ourselves in clouds and rain most of the time, but one can only imagine what it would look like in peak season!
Mai Chai is a tourist hot spot, so Western comforts and a good hotel are easy to get hold of.
Mai Chau to Phú Yên
Day 2 is around 80 percent offroad and takes you to places we are pretty sure no foreigners have been before Tigit. Well off the beaten path and into very remote farming villages.
Once again the landscapes are stunning. The day can end anytime you like, really, with the remote landscapes closely following a major highway.
Whilst Phu Yen is not a tourist hotspot, it is a place where all offroad tours are used as a base, so once again, a good hotel and easy good food are readily available.
Phu Yen to Hanoi
This contains a beautiful offroad trail within the first five minutes of driving. A highlight piece of mountain offroad for any tour. It is the smoker finish to day one of our 4 to 5-day tour, but this time, it is the banging start to the last day of this 3-day tour.
Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on your frame of mind, we spend a significant amount of time on beautiful roads to get nearer to Hanoi.
The cool thing about the road we drive is that it was once a road but is now crushed by a landslide. A lot of the road is missing, meaning there are no cars!
Motorbikes can offroad easily enough through the river. No worries!
We can either drive directly back to Hanoi or take a small detour into forestry areas for one final piece of offroad action before entering the big city.
While Ben and Jon might find beautiful road driving boring, we think most customers will find it a refreshing and relaxing way to finish the tour!
